It’s always fun to celebrate an accomplishment – to treat yourself for a job well done! But the way most people celebrate is by going out to dinner, buying themselves something shiny and new, maybe even throwing a party. All of these options involve spending money, and if you are trying to be frugal while paying off debt you should probably steer clear of these traditional methods of rewarding yourself. That’s especially true if the thing you’re celebrating is meeting a financial goal (like paying off your car). However, I am a huge believer in rewarding yourself and celebrating your accomplishments, so I’ve put together a list of 10 ways to reward yourself without overspending.
Music
- Create a playlist of songs that get you pumped up and have a little dance party with your friends, family, or just by yourself.
- Create a victory dance while you’re at it!
Beauty
- Pamper yourself at home – enjoy a bubble bath, paint your nails, or try a new face mask.
Food and Entertainment
- Get your favorite snacks and candy from the Dollar Store and veg out while watching one of your favorite movies
- Go to a restaurant just for dessert – you’ll get the nice dining experience without the large restaurant bill
- Type “free events near me” into your google search bar and see what kinds of fun things to do for free in your town. Or go to the Eventbrite website and narrow your search by event type.
Social
- Take a day off of work (if you have the vacation hours to cover it) and spend it with family or friends… or just relaxing.
- Share your big accomplishment with friends and family, let them shower you with praises and compliments
Kindness
- Write a thank you note to someone who helped you accomplish your goal.
- Pay it forward and find someone who you can help to accomplish their goal.
You deserve to be rewarded for all your hard work, and there are plenty of ways to celebrate without breaking the bank. What are some of your favorite ways to celebrate when you’re on a budget?
